Safety and Environmental Specialist

Job Description

Mass Excavation Construction & Environmental Company is seeking a full-time field Safety and Environmental Specialist to administer our company’s Health and Safety program at our job sites in the Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina and Tennessee areas. Duties include safety, training, compliance, inspections and audits.

Primary Duties

  • Implements and maintains company policies adhering to local, state and federal, and customer environmental, health and safety regulations.
  • Administer employee training programs.
  • Assist in the design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures.
  • Makes environmental, health and safety recommendations.
  • Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.
  • Investigate reported accidents, incidents and near misses. Evaluate current best practices and then prepare reports and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop relationships with our customers at the local and corporate level to promote and incorporate the company’s safety program.

Prerequisites

  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Mass Excavation
  • Construction business (Caterpillar type equipment) and trucking is a positive.
  • Safety Professional designation and/or OSHA 500/510 Certifications preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience as a dedicated safety professional.
  • 4-year degree in Environmental, Health and Safety is a positive.
  • Strong written, verbal communications and teaching skills.
  • Position requires knowledge of job safety analysis, job instructions training and ability to write Job Safety Analysis (JHA's)
  • Develop Site Specific Safety Plans.
  • Must have strong computer skills using Microsoft Windows, Outlook Email, and MS Excel and
  • MS Word programs. MS PowerPoint experience also preferred.
  • DOT Compliance experience.
  • Travel may be required up to 50-75% depending on location.
